Grimes apologizes to fans after rocky Coachella set that left her screaming: ‘I will not let such a thing happen again’

  • Grimes suffered technical issues while performing at Coachella on Saturday.
  • She shared a lengthy statement apologizing to Coachella attendees and fans on X.

Grimes said her Coachella performance was bogged down by “technical issues” in an apology to fans.

The musician shared her thoughts in a lengthy post to X. The previous night, Grimes, 36, appeared on the Sahara Stage to perform a 50-minute DJ set for eager crowds at the music festival and online. However, outlets like Variety reported that the set took a turn during the second half when she faced technical malfunctions with her equipment.

Videos shared to X showed Grimes getting visibly frustrated — screaming at some points — and trying to explain the issues to the crowd.

“I want to apologize for the technical issues with the show tonight,” Grimes said.

She wrote that she typically handles “every aspect” of her shows but decided this time to outsource for items like rekordbox bpms and organizing the tracklist.

“i had a bad feeling beforehand not having run everything thru the cdjs myself and tho I flagged it I wasn’t insistent,” she wrote.

Grimes wrote that she intends to organize the files herself for Coachella Weekend 2 when she performs again.

“I’ve spent months on this show, making music and visuals, and admittedly am not in the best mood atm,” she wrote. “But, yeh – next week will be flawless, everything will run thru my hands.”

She added: “Plz forgive me! Love, always.”

Representatives for Grimes did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

On X, Grimes also shared a post promoting an upcoming Coachella performance by DJ Anyma, whom outlets speculated she’s dating amid her custody battle with Elon Musk.

Musk and Grimes have filed child custody lawsuits against each other for their three young children: X Æ A-Xii, Exa Dark Sideræl, and Tau Techno Mechanicus.

Grimes filed a petition in Los Angeles to “determine parental relationship in April 2022,” while Musk filed a similar lawsuit in Texas last September.

This month, the pair appeared to share a friendly exchange on X, breaking away from the contentious claims both have made in legal filings.
