2 Men Robbed Clearwater Convenience Store: U.S. DOJ

Two Pinellas County men were indicted on charges related to the armed robbery of a Clearwater convenience store, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.

Alex Jones, 31, and Jhakheem Smith, 24, were charged with Hobbs Act robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

If convicted, they face up to 20 years in federal prison for each robbery charge and up to life in prison for the firearm charge.

During the Nov. 8 robbery, they brandished a firearm and used it to hit a store clerk in the back of the head, the DOJ said.

They forced the victim to the back of the store at gunpoint before running away from the scene.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Clearwater Police Department, and the Largo Police Department.
